Graduate Council of the UC Academic Senate-Irvine Division
Grad Council sets policy for all academic issues related to graduate education at UCI. It reviews and accepts or rejects changes to program requirements, course listings, exam structures, etc. The Council is also partly responsible for conducting and following up on regular reviews of programs by external experts; these reviews are an excellent place for students to become involved in assessing their programs' stregnths and weaknesses, and the Council has often taken student input--collective and individual--as important and productive parts of the review process. It also serves in an advisory capacity to make recommendations about other aspects of student life, most prominently UCI housing policy. Knowing who your school's faculty representative to the Council is can help you make your views known to the Council, and you can also recommend that your faculty members contact Council members with concerns or questions about ongoing policy discussions.
