How do I modify my iCal calendar after its published to the website?
Up to table of contentsApple iCal
Tested with iCal v.2.0.3
Apple, in its infinite wisdom, has made all subscribed calendars read only. That means that if you weren't the one that published the calendar, then you can not edit it.
Only the owner of the calendar can modify the calendar via iCal. This is retarded.
Mozilla Firefox with Calendar Extension
Tested with FireFox v.1.5.0.3 and Calendar 0.2.0.20060116
If you are using Firefox, make sure you have the Mozilla Calendar extension. Its a no brainer to install.
After restarting Firefox, go to the Tools menu. Select Calendar. This will open a new window.
With this window active, click the File menu and select Subscribe to Remote Calendar. In Calendar Name fill it in with something descriptive and pick your favorite Color. In the Remote Server URL, use the URL for your shared calendar. For example, you may have something like webcal://webdav.ags.uci.edu/Members/username/My%20Calendar.ics. Leave Local File Location blank. Make sure to click the check box if you want to modify this calendar.
If you have problems modifying the calendar that is published to the website, make sure the owner of the calendar has given you permission to edit the calendar. This can be done on the AGS website by navigating to the calendar and clicking on the sharing tab. From here the calendar owner can add read/write permissions for groups and users.
Mozilla Thunderbird with Calendar Extension
Untested - assumed to work since its similar to FireFox
Ximian Evolution
Untested but it may work
Others
There may be other iCal compliant clients. You're on your own, but if you figure something out add a comment to this page.
