The AGS Social Committee is a subcommittee of AGS Council. Its main function is to organize and host AGS sponsored programming for graduate students. This includes but is not limited to AGS' quarterly parties and the Welcome Week Party.

Charter of the Social Committee
Associated Graduate Students, University of California, Irvine

I. Overview:

1. The Social Committee is a sub-committee of AGS Internal Affairs focused on fostering community between graduate students and other constituents of the University of California, Irvine.  Its main goal is to encourage interaction among graduate students.  To encourage such relationships, the committee seeks out venues and implements creative themes, hosts social and community events, and represents AGS at campus-wide events.  Moreover, it serves to inform the campus community of the presence of AGS and its commitment to a well-rounded graduate student experience.

 

II. Responsibilities:

  1. To create opportunities for graduate students to strengthen relationships within the community, including but not limited to interactions of the following types: graduate-graduate, faculty-graduate, administration-graduate, and undergraduate-graduate.
  2. To network and solicit participation from the greater graduate community. 
  3. To strategically use social funds to expand AGS influence.
  4. To generate proposals for allocation of AGS Social funds in conjunction with the AGS Council.
  5. Provide refreshments for all AGS Council Meetings.

 

III. Committee Membership:

1. Voting:
1.1 AGS Social Committee chair.
1.2 4-8 graduate students 
2. Non-Voting:
            2.1 AGS VP Internal

 

IV. Procedural:

  1. Oversight: Committee oversight by Vice President Internal Affairs
  2. Recommendations are to be approved by simple majority.
  3. Quorum is required for all votes and consists of the Chair and 3 additional voting members.
  4. Proxies: Each position is responsible for appointing their own proxy prior to the scheduled meeting.

 

V. Operational Guidelines:

1. Membership:
1.1  Graduate Student Members:  All graduate student members must be UCI graduate students in good standing.
1.2  Applications:  The AGS Vice President Administrative Affairs shall solicit applications and the AGS council shall approve all Graduate Student Members.

 

  1. Procedures:

2.1  Meeting Frequency:  The Social committee shall meet at least twice a month.

    1. Meeting Time:  At the beginning of each quarter the committee shall set the time and date for all meetings.  
    2. It is expected that at least one social event shall be held each quarter and the events be diverse in nature.
