Resolution 09-76 AGS Council Appointments

WHEREAS AGS functions best when all graduate students are represented

 

WHEREAS the AGS Bylaws states “the Executive Council is empowered to appoint a graduate student to a vacant seat only in the event that there are no second place candidates in the prior election, or where those persons decline the opportunity to serve.” in Membership Provisions, Sec. G.

 

WHEREAS the after-mentioned AGS members were unelected candidates in the previous elections and now wish to serve on council.

 

LET IT THEREFORE BE RESOLVED THAT Christine Eubank is appointed a council member representing the School of Humanities and Jason Deckman is appointed a council member representing the School of Physical Sciences effective immediately.

 

09-77 Committee Appointments

WHEREAS the AGS Bylaws state that the Vice President Administrative Affairs is responsible for graduate student committee appointments

 

WHEREAS these appointments are conditioned on the approval of AGS Council

 

WHEREAS Council members are strongly encouraged to sit on an AGS, Senate, or Campus committee

 

LET IT THEREFORE BE RESOLVED that the following graduate students be appointed to the following committees

 

Xiaochen Shi to the Academic Senate Council on International Education

Leona Bessonova to the Academic Senate Council on Planning and Budget

Monica Arnold to the Student Center Board Council

 


Bill 09-78 To Fund Mid-Autumn Chinese Festival

WHEREAS it is stated in Article V, Section 6 of the AGS Constitution that “AGS project funds are intended to improve the social and academic environment of the UCI campus for graduate students
,” and

 

WHEREAS the Mid-autumn festival is an essential festival for Chinese students and some other Eastern-Asian students and makes these students feel more ‘at home’ in the UCI community, and

 

WHEREAS CSSA is always trying to promote Chinese Culture and eliminate misunderstanding about China. making the mid-autumn party a good opportunity to invite students of all ethnicities  to gather together, have fun, and enhance communication between them,


LET IT THEREFORE BE RESOLVED that AGS allocate $2200.00 from the Special Projects budget to fund the Mid-Autumn Chinese festival for graduate students.
