WHEREAS the AGS constitution calls for the annual establishment of a Judicial Committee;

WHEREAS it is the constitutional duty of the President to appoint a Judicial Committee Chair;

WHEREAS the Judicial committee’s duties include interpretation of the Constitution, Council Bylaws, elections procedures and all other rules and regulations of AGS;

WHEREAS an additional duty of the Judicial Committee is to determine the constitutionality of all legislation passed by AGS Council;

WHEREAS it is the responsibility of the Chair to ensure these duties are properly discharged and therefore it would behoove AGS if the Chair possessed some training or familiarity with said duties;

WHEREAS the interests of AGS are best served if the Judicial Committee Chair has no conflict as a voting member of AGS and the constitution calls for non-Council members to serve on the Judicial Committee to preserve the process from bias or partisanship;

WHEREAS AGS desires the Chair of the Judicial Committee to be well-versed in representational government, constitutional interpretation, and legal proceedings;

LET IT THEREFORE BE RESOLVED that Kristine Artello, because of her legal training, law degree, advanced graduate student status, lack of a council seat and genuine desire to be involved, meets the criteria required;

LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED that Kristine Artello is appointed to the position of Chair, Judicial Committee for the 2009-10 Academic term.
