Resolution 10-04 To Recognize the Efforts of UCI Parking and Transportation Services on Behalf of Graduate Students

 WHEREAS the Preamble of the AGS Council states the purpose of AGS Council is “to provide a forum for the expression and recognition of graduate students’ needs and rights; to represent graduate students in the university community and elsewhere; to promote those needs and rights; and to participate in the governance of this university”;

 
 WHEREAS Article 2 Section 3 states “the primary responsibility of each Council member shall be to represent his/her constituency to the Council”;
 
 WHEREAS Council members have long wished to respond to constituent requests regarding their need to park on campus late at night for brief periods of time in order to conduct their research efficiently;
 
WHEREAS AGS President Carrie Carmody and VP Internal Annessa Stagner met with Ronald Fleming, interim director of Parking and Transportation, in December 2009 regarding these concerns;
 
WHEREAS the aforesaid individuals discussed potential solutions to graduate students’ concerns;
 
WHEREAS Parking and Transportation generously listened to the difficulties graduate students face regarding parking and responded by developing a policy which will allow graduate students enrolled in the Graduate Student Employee Alternate Commute program to park on campus after 5PM and on weekends;
 
WHEREAS this new policy will be extremely helpful for graduate students and responds to Council constituents’ requests;
 
 LET IT THEREFORE BE RESOLVED that AGS Council recognizes the great benefits of this new policy for graduate students;
 
LET IT FURTHER BE RESOLVED that AGS Council commends and deeply thanks the efforts of Parking and Transportation to accommodate graduate student needs at the University of California.
