Graduate Student Health Insurance Plan
UCI offers one of the most comprehensive graduate student health insurance plans (GSHIP) to its graduate student population. Participation in GSHIP is mandatory, but students can waive out if they can show comparable coverage.
UCI's current insurance carriers for GSHIP are PacifiCare for the medical plan, Western Dental for the dental plan, and the Student Health Vision clinic for the vision plan. The GSHIP Committee is responsible for benefit and premium negotiations with insurance companies. It consists of 6 graduate students appointed by AGS and 3 voting administrative members representing Student Affairs, Graduate Studies, and the Budget Office.

Insurance carriers for GSHIP are selected by the Chancellor, based on a recommendation by UCI's GSHIP Committee. The committee consists of 6 graduate students and 3 administrators and a number of non-voting advisors.
Another committee is the GSHIP Advisory Board which provides feedback regarding how well the insurer is providing us service.
