The AGS shares professional staff with the ASUCI. Each group pays according to their size; hence the bulk of the expense is carried by the ASUCI. The professional staff that is retained handles tasks such as payroll, accounting, facilities management, desktop computer support, etc.
In addition, AGS has a number of staff positions that are created as needed by Council. The amount of work required to properly represent graduate students exceeds the time available of the AGS Executives and is often specialized in nature. These positions can be filled by any graduate student, including currently seated Council members.
Detailed job descriptions for each of these positions can be obtained from the VP Admin.
Campus Communications Director
Reports to the VP Administrative Affairs
The Campus Communications Director (CCD) is charged with facilitating and executing communication between the Council and the greater graduate student population.
The responsibilities of the CCD include, but are not limited to:
- Work with all the AGS officers on issues regarding mass communications.
- Distribute information in whatever form(s) necessary in a timely fashion
- Take the lead in advertising events sponsored by the AGS Council and Social Committee
- Make regular reports to the President.
The CCD for 2008-2009 is Jessie Weber from the School of Engineering.
Campus Organizing Director
Reports to the VP Internal
The Campus Organizing Director (COD) assists the VP Internal and AGS Council in informing and mobilizing the graduate student population regarding campus and system wide actions.
The responsibilities of the COD include, but are not limited to:
- Mobilize grassroots student action as directed by the Council.
- Maintain contact with various campus groups and organizations to promote AGS and grad student issues
- Poll student interest and opinions as needed.
Legislative Liaison
Reports to the VP External
The Legislative Liaison (LL) works hand-in-hand with, and under the supervision of the VP External. The LL's core responsibilities are to organize and attend in-district, state, and federal lobby visits.
The responsibilities of the LL include, but are not limited to:
- Organizing and attending in-district, state (Sacramento), and National lobby visits.
- Participation in UCSA
- Represent UCI AGS at the UCSA Board of Directors.
- Be an active member of the UCSA Legislative Committee
- Represent the VP External in case of his absence.
The Legislative Liaison for Winter and Spring 2009 is Josh Gellars.
GSHIP Chair
Reports to the VP Internal
The GSHIP Chair heads the Graduate Student Health Insurance Program Committee, which heads the annual negotiations of the graduate student health insurance policy.
The responsibilities of the GSHIP Chair include, but are not limited to:
- Attend all GSHIP/GAB committee meetings.
- Report to the Council on a regular basis.
Social Committee Chair
Reports to the VP Internal
The Social Committee Chair heads the AGS Social Committee. This committee is charged with planning, organizing and executing AGS social events utilizing funds approved by the AGS Council in its annual budget.
The responsibilities of the Social Committee Chair include, but are not limited to:
- Chair all meetings of the committee
- Communicate to the AGS Executives and Council upcoming social events and solicit assistance when needed
- Provide a recap after each AGS sponsored event
- Arrange for food at all full council meetings
