It is located about 50 miles NorthEast of Lake Ontario on the St. Lawrence river. In August 1989, some accusations of sexual abuse emerged from a 7 year old girl. She said that her two younger siblings had been victimized as well. She said that she had been sexually abused by groups of adults dressed in gowns and masks during what she called "monster games in the basement". She had been submerged in water, confined beneath floorboards and forced to eat and drink "yucky juice". These abuse sessions were videotaped. She later revealed stories of bondage, mutilation, killing of animals, and murder of one infant. The investigators claim that there was some confirming evidence, but this was not described in the report that I have. By October, the Ontario Government decided to fund a special police/child welfare investigation, the Child Abuse Project (CAP). It was called "Project Jerico", named after an infant who was believed to have been ritually killed. The first charges were laid in 1990-FEB. The case won coast-to-coast publicity when rumours of a Satanic conspiracy and organized sex rings. By 1994-OCT, 119 perpetrators (897 males, 22 females) had been identified, 65 perpetrators had been charged with 376 offences against 162 children. By then, 45 trials had been completed and 41 convictions obtained. They later concluded that only a very few of the alleged 275 victims were sadistically abused, that it was not linked to a Satanic cult, and that the perpetrators were adults with limited intelligence. You will see echoes of McMartin, Little Rascalls and Wenatchee in this MVMO case. I am not certain, but this case may have resulted in the largest number of convictions of any similar MVMO case in North America. To my knowledge, no investigative reporter has studied the case. It would be great if one would.
