Bill 09-63 Proposal for AGS Conference Event

WHEREAS the AGS council should be trained to know the duties and
responsibilities for all positions within executive, staff, committee and council capacity.
 
WHEREAS it is advantageous to use an event to foster a plan for
council's growth and function within the University of California at
Irvine.
 
WHEREAS the AGS executive committee believes a formal event, organized
in a professional manner, for the purpose of information and
presentation would set the stage for a productive year within council.
 
LET IT THEREFORE BE RESOLVED that we set aside $3,000.00 for a formal conference at the Hotel Laguna on Wednesday the September 23rd from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm.

09-64 Fund Fall Graduate Sale

WHEREAS new (and continuing) UCI graduate students may need items for their home
 
WHEREAS continuing and graduating students may have items they wish to sell or donate but do not have a convenient way to do so;
 
WHEREAS the Graduate Sale in Spring 2009 had a turnout of over 100 people and a highly positive response from the AGS Social Events survey
 
LET IT THEREFORE BE RESOLVED that $300 from Special Projects be allocated to fund a graduate student sale.
 
 


 
 
 
Bill 09-65 Fund Graduate Student T-Shirts and Transportation to the Susan G. Komen “Race for the Cure”

Whereas the Associated Graduate Students (AGS) aim to bring students together in a variety of activities, and
 
Whereas 40 graduate students will be attending the Susan G. Komen ‘Race for the Cure,’ a walk to raise awareness of and end breast cancer, and
 
Whereas publicizing graduate student community efforts and social events is an important goal for AGS, and
 
Whereas arranging transportation and having all graduate students arrive and leave in unison will aid in event organization and publicity opportunities, and

Whereas this year’s race will be held on September 27, 2009 in Newport Beach,

Let it therefore be resolved that AGS allocate $714.80 ($433.20 for t-shirts and $281.60 for transportation) from the Special Projects budget to pay for grad student event t-shirts and transportation.
 


 
Bill 09-66 SPICMACAY Funding Request

WHEREAS it is stated in Article V, Section 4 of the AGS Constitution that “AGS project funds are intended to improve the social and academic environment of the UCI campus for graduate students,”
 
WHEREAS SPICMACAY (Society for Promotion Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth) @ UCI is hosting a concert on October 17, 2009 entitled “Violin Concert by Lalgudi Duo and Troupe,”
 
WHEREAS the concert is meant to provide graduate students with an opportunity to experience Indian Classical Music and the musical instrument Violin, played by two of the leading exponents in the field,
 
WHEREAS the concert will be widely advertised and open to additional graduate students and faculty to attend,
 
WHEREAS the concert will be a nice stress reliever as well as a memorable experience for the musically inclined,
 
WHEREAS no such Violin concert has been held in UCI before and students will learn about fusion of oriental and western music
 
THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED that the AGS Council shall contribute $2000 from the Special Projects fund for the SPICMACAY @ UCI “Violin Concert by Lalgudi Duo and Troupe.”
 
 


 
Bill  09- 67 Shoktoberfest Funding

WHEREAS AGS is charged with promoting graduate student needs;
 
WHEREAS AGS has identified the need to improve campus connection and social interaction for the graduate students;
 
WHEREAS AGS may contract with ASUCI for inclusion of AGS members in ASUCI sponsored events;
 
WHEREAS as ASUCI traditionally pays over $85,000 from undergraduate student fees for the Shoktoberfest event and has traditionally excluded grad students due to a lack of financial participation from graduate students;
 
WHEREAS ASUCI has approached AGS for inclusion in this year’s event as a sign of goodwill and an effort toward strengthening partnerships and only requires a nominal financial contribution for inclusion;
 
WHEREAS AGS has been approached by graduate students asking for inclusion in the 2009 ASUCI Shoktoberfest event;
 
WHEREAS AGS has set aside funds for special projects that promote graduate inclusion and activities;
 
THEREFORE let it be resolved that AGS will donate $1000 to ASUCI for inclusion of graduate students in the 2009 Shoktoberfest event to be paid from special project funds
