a.    President (5)

UCOP meeting:

- could be possible for grads to get additional majors, but more details needed

- some student-parent groups asking for dedicated resources and space

b.    VP Internal (3)

Met w/ academic counselor about diff. counseling options

Housing meetings – Want to push for options in Masters housing, and new/better procedures for selecting housing details

c.    VP External (3)

Chancellor meeting, he was receptive to some issues surrounding Masters students concerns. Did mention that UC as a whole will be adding more undergraduate students (450ish), so they’ll also be seeking housing and could add to crunch

d.    VP Social (3)

Halloween Party on Friday at 9pm, Saturday afternoon will be Fall Carnival at old Rec Center in Verano

-       Need help setup for Friday party and working games on Saturday

PhD movie screening, just looking for last bits of fuunding

e.    VP Finance (3)

Finance Committee meeting, will be voting on some of these special project funds today

Travel Grants deadline was last Friday, will be determining and doing notifications over the next two weeks.

f.    VP Admin (3)

When doing proxies make sure they’ll actually be here. And no one can proxy for more than 2 people per meeting

    V.       Staff Updates (5)

Video recording possibly for Symposium, will be a great resource for students

International AGS Soccer tournament this Sunday! Sign up, come play.

    VI.        SAGE Proposal (10)

Reps from UCSA: Right now everyone participating students pays $1.30/students for UCSA, but this causes uneven payments and lack of representation. Decision to participate also comes down to one EVP, and it can cause sudden change in their funding despite UCSA advocating for everyone.

-       Want to change to a $4 to $6 opt-out fee that individuals are in charge of

-       Asking that AGS supports with a resolution in favor of the fee change

VII.     UAW RA Unionization Presentation (5)

TA, Reader, and Tutor Union – One of the big projects we’re working on is getting Research Assistants (RAs) the right to legally organize. Will need to go up through the Governor, so it might be a lengthy process. Especially worried about situations of exploitation and situations where RAs can be in unprotected situations. Currently gathering testimonials and looking to hear back on any issues from across the schools. Please come to UAW with stories: lizheckmaier@uaw2865.com

VIII.    UCOP Sexual Harassment Policy (5)

Email was sent out this month on proposed policy about sexual harassment language. You can submit feedback to david.lane@ucop.edu. There is odd wording within the language and no timeline for hearings/punishments for sexual harassment. Also concerned that all TAs and RAs are mandatory reporters for undergraduate issues, which they disagree that this should be included. Deadline is this Thursday to submit comments, and we’d like AGS to eventually weigh in on this.
